Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen will always have a hand to hold onto in Dave Coulier.
While the twin sisters—whose acting careers began at just 9 months old in their joint role as Michelle Tanner on Full House—have largely distanced themselves from their acting roots, they did reconnect with their former costars at their TV dad Bob Saget’s funeral in January 2022.
“When we saw them at Bob’s funeral and his memorial, it was just wonderful,” Coulier—who played Joey Gladstone on the long-running sitcom—told The New York Post in an interview published Sept. 13. “That’s the only word I think of. It was wonderful to see Mary-Kate and Ashley.”
In fact, the comedian, 64, got to spend some quality time with the actresses-turned-fashion-moguls, now 38, as the surviving castmates gathered following the memorial. “I have a picture somewhere where John Stamos has the Dumbo from Disneyland in his house, and it’s from the ride,” he recalled. “And so I went and I sat in there and I started playing around, and all of a sudden, Mary-Kate came over and she sat next to me, and then all of a sudden, Ashley sat next to me.”
He continued, “The three of us were in there just laughing and being kids. It was wonderful.”
After co-starring in dozens of film and TV projects, the twins last shared the screen in the 2004 comedy New York Minute, turning their focus to their clothing brands while Mary-Kate continued to take occasional acting roles until 2011. Though they’ve opted out of numerous Full House reunions—including the 2016 Netflix reboot series, Fuller House—Coulier said he supports their decision.
“I don’t know how much I would bond with people when I was 8 months old,” he reasoned. “I mean, they were in diapers. They have a different perspective about everything that happened during that time. And we understand that and we love them dearly.”
Last year, Stamos also gave insight into what the sisters told their former castmates at Saget’s funeral.
“We weren’t that close over the years just because of distance and they said all the things we wanted to hear,” the actor recalled on Live with Kelly and Mark in October. “They said, ‘We loved our childhood, we love you guys. Thank you for those beautiful eight years,'” he continued. “It was really something that the rest of us needed to hear. It was really nice.”
